The following is a press release from EDGE OUTreach partner Palm Springs Pride

Greater Palm Springs Pride today announced a 15-day, $25,000 matching challenge to complete the funding for the installation of the Landmark Pride Flagpole at the gateway to the Arenas District.

This final fundraising push is made possible by the extraordinary generosity of community leaders Mark Porterfield and Steve Chadima, who have pledged a $25,000 match for every dollar donated over the next two weeks.

The Landmark Pride Flagpole, situated at the intersection of Arenas Road and Indian Canyon Drive, is poised to become a permanent and highly visible symbol of freedom and equality. It will feature a prominent installation of the original eight-color Gilbert Baker-designed Pride flag, which is considered the most significant piece of LGBTQ+ art created by the late artist.

"This flagpole is more than just a structure; it's a powerful and permanent monument to the activists who have tirelessly fought for equality since the flag was first flown in 1978," said Jasmine Sullivan Waits, Executive Director of Greater Palm Springs Pride. "Mark Porterfield and Steve Chadima's monumental gift has energized our final push. We are confident the community will rise to this challenge and help us permanently cement this symbol in the heart of Palm Springs."

Mark Porterfield and Steve Chadima shared their enthusiasm for the project: "We believe in the welcoming and inclusive spirit of Palm Springs. This flagpole will be a lasting testament to that spirit, and we are proud to offer this challenge to help Greater Palm Springs Pride complete their goal and bring this landmark to life."

With the momentum from this matching challenge, Greater Palm Springs Pride anticipates that the official flag-raising ceremony will take place the week of October 21st.

The public is encouraged to contribute now to double the impact of their donation. The $25,000 matching challenge begins immediately and runs for 15 days.

Donations can be made online at  pspride.org/flagpole .
