Sam Smith: Grindr is "Ruining Romance"

Out pop star Sam Smith told the British newspaper the Metro Tuesday that social media dating apps like Grindr and Tindr are "ruining romance," urging fans to delete them.

"We're losing the art of conversation and being able to go and speak to people," Sam, 22, told the newspaper.

The "Stay With Me" singer, who revealed earlier this year that his debut LP "The Lonely Hour" was about unrequited love he felt for another man, said he's still not found true love yet, however.

"There is one particular guy that I've been on a few dates with. I like him but who knows?" he asked.

But he added that hookup apps like Grindr aren't helping his love life any and that he's trying not to be superficial when it comes to dating.

"From my experience the most beautiful people I've been on dates with are the dumbest, so why would I swipe people who are 'unattractive' when I could potentially fall in love with them? Stop Tinder and Grindr!" he said.

Sam opened up to the Fader this summer about his sexuality, and for the first time, revealed his heartbreak with another man, which inspired his album.

"I think I'm over it now, but I was in a very dark place," he said. "I kept feeling lonely in the fact that I hadn't felt love before. I've felt the bad things. And what's a more powerful emotion: pain or happiness?"
