Man Pleads Not Guilty in Palm Springs Stabbing of Alleged Lover

The 22-year-old man suspect in the fatal stabbing of a 68- year-old man in Palm Springs has pled not guilty to murder on Wednesday.
As reported by NBC Palm Springs, suspect Evan Charles Steele was at the Larson Justice Center in Indio when he pled not guilty to one felony count of burglary and denied using a weapon.
According to NBC, his next court appearance is set for April 8.
On Sunday, officers reportedly responded to reports of a domestic a domestic disturbance just after 9 p.m., according to the Palm Springs Police Department. The 68-year-old man was identified as Robert Detulio of Palm Springs, who was found outside a home with stab wounds.
Detulio reportedly succumbed to his injuries at 9:50 p.m. and was pronounced dead after being taken to Desert Regional Medical Center.
According to police, a preliminary investigation found that Detulio and Steele were in a relationship.
"Eyewitnesses, including a vigilant neighbor, reported hearing an altercation and observing the suspect fleeing from the premises," said Palm Springs police in a statement. "Based on this information, PSPD officers, in collaboration with Riverside Sheriff's Office Star 9, combed the vicinity for the suspect."
According to NBC Palm Springs, Steele was arrested in the area of North Riverside Place. He has been booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, where he remains held without bail.
