Comedian Ellen DeGeneres Abruptly Shutters Stand-Up Tour Dates, Plans to Disappear: 'I'm Done'

Legendary comedian Ellen DeGeneres is reportedly planning her exit from the limelight, and the signs are already there.

As reported by Los Angeles Times, DeGeneres just canceled four of her upcoming stand-up tour dates with no reason given.

The tour was already limited to begin with, focusing mostly on the West Coast. However, news has hit that the former talk show host has canceled Dallas (July 10), San Francisco (July 21), Seattle (July 23) and Chicago (Aug. 11) shows.

In a May 2024 announcement, "Ellen's Last Stand ... Up Tour" was promoted as her "long-awaited comeback to stand-up comedy" and "the last opportunity for fans to witness a comedy legend in her final curtain call."

Yet it seems the former Queen of Nice might be cutting her curtain call short. LA Times reports that only 8 of her 27 dates were sold out, leading up to the final shows to be filmed in Minneapolis for her Netflix special.

Are low ticket sales to blame? Is she just ready to hang it up?

Since the tour began, parts of DeGeneres' act have surfaced in which she seems to poke fun at her sudden fall from grace that ended her talk show in 2022 after nearly two decades.

"This is the second time I've been kicked out of show business," said DeGeneres during a set at Largo at the Coronet in April. "Eventually they're going to kick me out for a third time because I'm mean, old and gay."

In a quick soundbyte given during a Q&A session at her Bay Area show Monday, DeGeneres confirmed that this tour was it for her time on the stage.

After being asked by a fan if she has any plans to make an appearance on Broadway or take on any movie roles, she was clear: "Um, no," she said. "This is the last time you're going to see me. After my Netflix special, I'm done."
