Gay Twitter Roundup: 'White Lotus' Cast Drama, 'Hacks' Comedy Gold & Lorde's Return
Andrea Marks Joseph READ TIME: 4 MIN.
There's nothing like Gay Twitter, and there's nowhere we'd rather be! We need this place, where the stress and chaos of the world becomes a topic for the creation of memes and inside jokes develop so quickly that you'll be lost if you miss even one afternoon. Gay Twitter is where we get the best screenshots to drop in the group chat when we're all feeling like the world is spiraling.
We watched "The White Lotus" finale, and then deep dived into the behind-the-scenes drama that suicidal dad Jason Isaacs could not stop blabbing about! We considered which "Severance" characters are the most and the least queer, with help from the actors who play Helly R and Mr. Milchick; and we began to prepare ourselves emotionally for the monumental occasion that a Lorde return would present as it reigned down upon us. What will we feel, who will we be? We can't wait for the singer-songwriter to tell us!
In an age where a tidal wave of AI-generated "art" has been flooding our feeds, we have also made sure to celebrate the unhinged, camp, queer creativity that can only come from a gay person's mind when they've had too much iced coffee and too little sleep. There's a certain level of magic that compels a person to make a fancam of Carmy from "The Bear" thematically and musically set to "High School Musical 2" banger "Bet On It." And then, of course, there's the power of fan-fiction. This roundup includes fan-fiction written in hieroglyphics, and of Gay Twitter taking a moment to honor the fan edit that changed and shaped so many lives: The "Gossip Girl" logo being cut up and collaged together to say the now iconic "Go piss girl."
We are so lucky to be alive in this era, there's so much gay media to enjoy: This week we celebrated one year of Sabrina Carpenter's hit song "Espresso"; we highlighted the comedy gold in the new season of "Hacks"; and, yeah, we're still thinking about Lochy telling Saxon he's "a pleaser." Piña coladas will never be the same! Jason Isaacs may be Deux moi! All this, and so much more X excellence to enjoy below!
Before we get into everything – Is Katy Perry gonna be okay in space?
We can't lose Katy Perry! The world needs her specific flavor of celebrity camp!
She looks incredible in the spacesuit, though. (We're obsessed with the comments below this tweet, where one person said "Face card" and another replied "i just know them aliens will be GAGGED when they see her."
"Hacks" is back and giving all the unhinged gay comedy gold the world needs right now
If you're not watching "Hacks," you should be.
We watched, digested (some of us literally – we're looking at you, Lochy) and reacted to the "White Lotus" finale.
We'll never think about piña coladas the same way, and we're sure millions of people will now forever flash back to Lochy's near-death (or death and rebirth?) experience while they clean their blenders.
Then, we learned about the "White Lotus" behind-the-scenes cast drama.
"It was a theatre camp, but to some extent an open prison camp: you couldn't avoid one another... There were alliances that formed and broke, romances that formed and broke, friendships that formed and broke. It's a long period of time for people to be away from their family with an open bar and all the wildness being in Thailand allows." Jason Isaacs may never be allowed on set with an ensemble cast again, but what a blessing his inability to stop blabbing about the behind-the-scenes "White Lotus" experience has been for all of us!
Lorde is showing all the signs of making a comeback, and it comes at a time when we need her vision now more than ever.
We interrupt this round-up for an all-important look at some thirst tweets!
We present to you: Photos of hot celebrities – that "Challengers" photo of Mike Faist; the unforgettable gif from Taylor Zakhar Perez's Men's Health leg day workout routine video; Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey serving face like no one else can; Dylan Mulvaney serving bodyyyy on the cover of Paper Magazine – to rejuvenate your soul and give you the energy and inner peace that only seeing sexy people can bring.
Queer people are the internet. We make history, and change history, simply by being our wild and wonderful selves online.
We always make time to honor the iconic pop culture elders and online divas who created lasting moments that have shaped who we are today. Reneé Rapp flashing the highway alongside her "Good tits, big heart" Coachella billboard; the person who created the "Go piss girl" meme; Robbie Williams' catchy, unhinged lyrical genius; Miley Cyrus being shocked at the number of tattoos she has on her body; and one year of the supersonic hit song "Espresso." Who could forget Ariana's deeply annoyed energy in that ridiculous interview opening; and we should seriously consider the powerful impact that a woman whose actor husband is going viral wields by simply enjoying the yaoi about him and keeping it to herself. That's icon behavior, and queer history in the making!
Before we go...
We present to you some things that we'll be thinking about for... probably the rest of our lives, but certainly at the least for the rest of the year! Gay fanfiction being written in hieroglyphics, and someone needing the life-giving power of fanfiction so badly that they hooked it up on the nearest available screen while in a hospital ward; a jarring sports graphic that will be supremely useful as a reaction gif; the cast of "Severance" answering questions about which of the show's characters are the most and least queer; and a showcase of Seth MacFarlane's most relatable gay characters.
